Grilling pizza this summer? Here are some wine pairing ideas!
For pesto pizza: Try a brightly flavored, acidic Barbera d’Asti — a Northern Italian wine made from Barbera grapes — it will balance the herbaceousness of the pesto and any meat-based toppings you have on the pizza. For a lighter pesto pizza, try an herbaceous wine like Cabernet Franc, or on the white wine side, Vermentino or Sauvignon Blanc.

For red pizza: If your pizza has meat toppings, try a hearty, bold red wine like Syrah or Malbec. Syrah has meaty notes of smoked meat and leather which will highlight the toppings on your pizza. If your pizza is on the lighter side with just cheese and sauce, a fresher red like Sangiovese or Montepulciano will be just delicious.
